4 Great reasons to buy from us:
This strong, easy growing tree is much adored for its beautiful large bright red scarlet flowers. These appear in the cold winter months up until spring. This is an extremely long flowering period and has assisted in its popularity in home gardens. This is a relatively large deciduous tree that can grow up to 11 metres. Some larger specimens in coastal areas can achieve up to 20 metres in height. They have trifoliate leaves (three leaflets) off each stem. The leaves have large rounded bottoms with sharp points. The bean like fruit pods can be up to 65mm long and the pods split to reveal shiny coral red seeds which are marked with a large single black spot. The flowers are loved by both birds and insects. The red seeds are also eaten by many birds and is an important food source. The branches and trunk has small thorn like attractive prickles. The coral tree can be planted in well lit sunny places. It enjoys well-drained soil. It can however tolerate quite moist soils as it often grows on the banks of rivers, dams and streams. This tree will also be able put up with dry conditions and poorer soils. So it is incredibly versatile. They do not respond well to excessively cold conditions. Useful in large bonsai rock gardens or standalone stunning show pieces.
Common names : kuskoraalboom (Afr.); umsinsi (Zulu); umsintsi (Xhosa)
