Every Seedleme basin starts the same way: a hand-mixed batch of fibre-reinforced concrete, poured into a custom mould in our Cape Town workshop. It's a slower process than mass-manufacturing — each basin takes days, not minutes — and that's deliberate.
The Mix
We use a fibre-reinforced concrete mix, chosen specifically for basin applications: it's more impact-resistant than standard concrete and less prone to the fine cracking you'd get from an ordinary mix. Colour is worked into the mix itself (not just painted on the surface), which is why the tone runs consistently through the material rather than just the top layer.
The Cast and Cure
Each basin is cast in a mould, then left to cure for several days before it's released, sanded, and finished by hand. This is the stage where the small variations that make each piece unique come through — no two basins cure or finish in exactly the same way, which is part of what makes a handmade piece different from an injection-moulded one.
Sealing and Finishing
Once cured, every basin is sanded smooth, inspected, and factory-sealed before it ships — so it arrives ready to install, with the durability of the seal already built in.
